Ingredients

  • 12 egg or white bread, crusts removed
  • 6 oz (175 g) chopped semisweet chocolate
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) orange juice
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) melted butter
  • 1/3 cup (75 mL) granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) Carnation® Regular, 2% or Fat Free Evaporated Milk
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
  • Confectioner’s (icing) sugar
  • orange sections (optional)

Directions

Step 1:

In a well greased 13- by 9-inch (3 L) baking dish, arrange 6 bread slices. Sprinkle over chopped chocolate. Top with remaining slices.

Step 2:

In a large bowl, beat eggs lightly. Whisk in orange juice, butter, sugar, evaporated milk and vanilla. Pour over bread. Let stand 30 minutes.

Step 3:

Bake in a preheated 350ºF (180ºC) oven for 45 minutes, or until puffed and lightly browned. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar. Serve with orange sections

Tip

Assemble, cover and refrigerate overnight (butter will harden, but will melt during cooking). Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
